40k2ndAC IV Month 5 recap

Month 5 is over and we are ready with the latest announcements of Terminator Honours and stats!

Terminator Honours

Every month the present and eliminated participants vote for which Gamer and Painter entries (one each) they think deserve The Terminator Honours.

Their votes are cast in any way shape or form they see fit, and you can win the honours multiple times if it so happens. For Gamer entries, a lot of people focus on the amount and quality you put up, whilst the Painter entries they take a more scrutinizing look at the actual painting involved. Some people just squint their eyes and choose the colours they like best when it’s all blurred.

Painter’s honours May

Finally, after having been a part of the painting votes runners up mulitple times, Mark Rayner had the entry that swayed the vote.

“Anyone painting Thousand Sons in that classic style deserves an award!”

“For the painter honours I would like to nominate Mark Rayner’s Thousand Sons. The paint job is beautiful and clean, but what I really love is the high contrast, particularly in the blue tones. It gives them an antique, but also kind of stormy look. Fantastic!”

“The blending Thousand Sons are just so smooth!”

A big congrats to Mark!

Gamer’s honours May

There was one distinct winner and two runners up for the Gamer’s Honours this month. George Sheperd and Jonas Frickmann were tied with their awesome vehicle entries, but PygmyHippo took both over in his Genetic Park tourist transports.

Painting an entire gaming table to a theme from this home page AND finishing the regular army entry on time is just beyond… well, frankly, anything we have seen here before. As such, the Gamer’s Honours are rightly deserved.

“That kind of massive output deserves recognition! Love the Genetic Park scenery.”

“For the gamer honours I nominate Pygmy Hippo. Not only do we get another wonderful ork mob to ogle at (I am a sucker for plasma), but the Genetic Park terrain has absolutely brought the Return to Hamelia XI campaign to life. I particularly love the transport wrecks and the paint job on the plastic dinosaurs is a real class act. Usually painting those kinds of miniatures is like putting lipstick on a dog!”

“Pygmyhippo – His genetic park terrain piece is incredible, it has the spirit of an old WD battle report game board but with the flair and creativity worthy of the campaign setting.”

Stats centre

The fith month unfortunately saw us losing long-time veteran Viden. Real life will get you sometimes, and there is just no way around that. I hope to see him back again in the future.

The model count was down somewhat this month. We combined for 185 models, which is almost 100 models under our average. I guess the fatigue is setting in and people have pulled out the hard parts in the start, leaving some more manageable slices for the remainder.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was especially the Gamer’s Pledges that were a lot narrower in scope. We have seen 30+ model (heck even 80! model) entries in the past few months, so people might literally be running out of models by now.

This month M4cr0dutch got the most points for his buck. He submitted two models, a Lictor and a Carnifex and thereby overtook both Wachmeister and Tom who normally ends up at this end of the spectrum. Or at least that used to be the truth:

Looking at the cumulative PPF (so across the whole challenge) Georg, Eric and I have actually overtaken everyone else. I knew this would happen, since I am essentially painting an elite terminator army… and probably Georg is not surprised either with his Harlies. With his expensive Eldar cheating devices Eric has wound up on top of mount PPF.

At the other end of the scale, we find the Imperial Guards, The Orks and yet more Eldar! There are many ways to do it.

Subgoals

This time around we are doing a set of 3 subgoals to spice it up and make it a real challenge. Here is the list of what has been completed so far. Most people have a feasible route in front of them. Some are probably at bit more in the spot. I am not going to name any names or point at the Space Wolves entries.
