Eighth Army platoon

I was introduced to WWII with Peter Pig miniatures and Baptism of Fire some 15 years ago and quickly fell into I Ain’t Been Shot, Mum! which I played intensely for years. Then I didn’t touch WWII for 5 years and now I’m falling all over again…

I guess old love never dies. And here is my first platoon and a half of Eighth Army from Battle Front miniatures.

My intention is to finish a company of the Eighth and make a selection of DAK to go up against it at this summer’s miniature camp. I haven’t settled on any rules yet, but both IABSM 3 and Iron Cross are contenders.

Painting wise I went for ultra simple jobs on these guys. This allows me to actually get the business done and it also looks better, to my eye, on the table top at viewing distance. The SAS models from Battlefront that I painted earlier were given way too much attention and look like a blur on the table I think.

The colours were taken more or less completely from BattleFront’s painting guide:

Webbing/backpacks: (V) Stonegrey
Helmets: (V) Dark Sand
Uniforms: (V) Iraqui Sand
Skin: (V) Basic Skintone
Socks/Helmet covers: (V) Khaki
Rifles: (PP) Bloodstone
Bajonets: (GW) Boltgun Metal

In some cases (mainly uniform and skin) several iterations were necessary to get and even coat on the black undercoat.
