Over a thousand models were painted around the globe during our event! Wow! Kudos! Confetti! Guns! I note also that on average participants completed 158% of their pledged amount of models. This means everyone more or less added bonus models. In some cases, making statistics breaks down. Like our Assassins participant who pledged 5 models and then added a complete army onto that, thus completing 840% of what was pledged. A few participants opened up to the Hobby Bingo late in the process and this gave rise to considerable additions to their armies also! Awesome stuff! We will of course use all this as feedback as we’re always striving to make the intent of the challenge clearer and drive people to their best! ;-D
A bit over one fifth of the participants failed to reach the goal line. Now, some casualties are to be expected, but we always hope to bring as many people all the way as possible. Another fourth used a mulligan before month 6, and then some 50% didn’t use a mulligan at all (making bonus entries for month 6) or completed their pledge and mulliganed in month 6. You can’t blame people for not feeling energized to add bonus stuff when the work is done. We get that!

If we zoom in on the data, a very obvious fact appears: All the participants who bottled out were of “rookie” status, meaning that the had previously complete 0 or 1 challenge. That means that nearly half of our FNG’s didn’t make it. That is something we will have to look into also. Is it too unclear what you enter into? Is it run too confusing? Or is it just a lot harder painting than people think?
Even though we have the table above showing both models and hours, I thought it would be fun to rank it by either and see who’s king of each. Unsurprisingly Alex Dingle leads with models painted. Over the years Alex has been at a very stable output, typically submitting his slice before anyone else starts painting each month. Adrian is right behind Alex this time, with Julien, TJM and Martin on his heels. Funnily the 5 top models producers are all Eldar or Tyranids. Tyranids probably less of a shock, but Eldar!?
If you go back and look at the monthly entries (please do! by the way) and appreciate the different entries it is probably no surprise that Tom is the one who spend the most hours painting. Extreme attention to detail and lavish setups made his Orks worthy of a White Dwarf feature without a doubt. The top 5 hours spent here, is a bit more mixed than for models: Orks, Orks, Eldar, Imperial Guard and Ultramarines. Oddly, only Julien is in both top 5’s with his Eldar! Lots of models and lots of time spent! I expected lots of models to land you in lots of time used, but I guess not!
If we slice the data one final way, and look at the time spent PER model… it looks completely different again! Drakeir went all in and it really shows in his Ultramarines. Like Tom’s Orks (and I could mention more people no doubt!) his Ultramarines force is absolutely worthy of highlights in whatever outlet exists.
The Hobby Bingo results will be typed up in a different post (hopefully next weekend, but bear with me on that). I will however, at the behest of Adrian reveal how the “goals” were distributed:
It is clear that some were more popular than others. And then one of the goals seems to have fallen off the list altoghether (monopose marine) yet SOME people still knew about it?! Very confusing. Metal Model Squad is the most popular one. I don’t recall the intent, other than frantically trying to think of more goals to add. But in practicality I guess it awards old models over 3d-print and new plastic?
As someone commented a lot of the goals are press ganging you into making things. Leopard print, astroturf terrain and so on. I think perhaps a revision of this entity is due.
