It has been 6 (long) months. Six months of trying to pull out all the stops, paint models, get bingo goals, drone on in a group chat, fantasize about what we would do once this thing was over, and lament about the current state of our bodily decline. But now: the deed is done!
We will now turn our focus towards the completed pledges of the participants. As custom has it, this requires me to post the starting image juxtaposed with the final image, so that you may appreciate the effort. In addition some participants are registering a final entry this month. So I have allowed for up to 3 images per participant this round. I hope you can still click/zoom to appreciate.

| Army entry: Beastmen Pack with Champion (11), Axes and Primitive Shields, 184 points | |||
I submitted a slice every month of the challenge, but figured for month 6 of the challenge I’d just paint up a pack of 11 beastmen. The monopose models are plastic beastmen from Battlemasters, and the metal champion is a classic metal Maurader fig. Since all the models were the same, I decided to convert every fig with a custom sculpted greenstuff shield. I had a ton of fun sculpting these. My plan was to sculpt one or two of them each month, but in the end I had to sculpt 7 at the end. Painting was fun and simple, I really am a sucker for old monopose models.
In total I painted 1617 points worth of Chaos models for the “Horns of Bovimeth” chaos marines. In addition, I painted 28 spiders and built an entire table of terrain for the Uluru campaign setting. I’m very happy with the amount of painting I accomplished, though I do wish that I had more time to paint a few Chaos models that I prepared for this challenge. Specifically a dreadnought, some terminators, and a standard bearer. Normally I’d just wait until next year’s challenge to paint them up, but I kinda want to draw my Chaos army to a close, so I’ll try to paint them over the remainder of the summer.
Thank you to Wachtmeister and Dr.TheViking for running this challenge. Kudos to all the painters involved. It’s always a joy to see what kind of inspired 2nd edition goodness they can pull out of their imaginations. I’ve been absolutely blown away by the painting this year.

Snippet (250 words): Here we are at the end of month six and the completion of the painting challenge! I have no models to submit this month, as I completed the challenge in month five and simply couldn’t bring myself to paint any more blue for a bonus month. There are still many more models to come for my 2nd Company Ultramarines army, but I’m going to paint something else for a while.

Thank you all for having me along for this wonderful challenge. Over the last six months, I painted more points’ worth of miniatures than I had during the previous year and a half of working on this army. This challenge (and the overwhelming fear of failure) gave me all the motivation I needed to complete my models to a level that I’m happy with in record time. I now have over 2,000 points of painted Ultramarines, so I can comfortably field the army for games of 2nd Edition—if I can ever find a fellow enthusiast to play with!
Finally, thank you to Wachmeister and Dr. The Viking for running this challenge. I’m already looking forward to the next one!

This month I only had to finish the remaining five models from the Tactical squad, and as I had done a bit of work on them during last month I was off to a good start. I had the colour scheme worked out, so it was just a matter of getting it done. The banner for this squad was fairly easy to paint in comparison to previous months, so that also saved some time. After I had finished the Space Marines I decided to paint up my 3D printed copy of Doctor Spork’s lovely 2nd edition style cathedral. This iconic piece of gothic terrain can be seen in so many GW publications from that era, and I really wanted to use it as a backdrop for my finished army. I decided to try out a sponge technique on the cathedral, and though it was a bit fiddly at times it worked out well in the end. With that done, it was just a matter of lining up my models and taking an army photo! Painting Blood Angels in the bright style of the 90’s was a lot tougher than I had anticipated, but I’m really proud of what I have achieved in this year’s challenge. Seeing the entire force fully painted in glorious red and assembled on the tabletop gave me a huge dose of 90’s nostalgia! As always, thanks to Dr. The Viking and Wachtmeister for running the challenge! It’s been fun taking part in this endeavour once more.

Phew, talk about scraping over the finish line! I had so many grand plans for this month to really work on the hobby bingo squares after finishing my last pledged model in month 5, but life had very different plans. My family returned from holiday to find our house flooding and it took two weeks for any tradespeople to tun up and actually do anything. Honestly we were lucky we didn’t lose much, but it was so bad we have had to find another place to live, which means the hobby was very much forced to take a back seat to real life this month – booo!!!
Having said that, while I may have been down I was not out. I did manage to finish a diorama board featuring real Australian red desert dirt (courtesy of a mate out West) and I was also able to finish a new backdrop too, complete with a few cacti in the distance!
Honestly though, the fact I was able to keep going despite all this shows why this challenge and all who participate in it are so important to me. We all support each other and encourage each other to go above and beyond what we pledge. Thank you so much to both the good Doctor and Wachtmeister for all their hard work on keeping this challenge running. It is always the highlight of my hobby year 🙂

Back on track for the July slice, and just in time to finish the challenge. Though I used a mulligan in June, I still got a little painting done. And having a lot more time in July, I managed to finish off the last slice of my pledge and get some bonus minis done. I didn’t get all the bonus minis done that I had hoped, but that just leaves more minis on the table for future challenges.
This month’s slice is another tank, the good old reliable Leman Russ Demolisher. This particular version was a rescue I bought a while ago. It was badly painted so I had to do some magic with a paint remover in order to get it done. To top it off, I got my hands on a newer Commissar tank commander, that fits the tank perfectly as it has been painted to match the Mordian company of my army.
The bonus minis I got painted were a few missing pieces of infantry troops and special characters for my Catachan and Mordian companies. I had planned to do some special rules and a character card to go along with Colonel “Iron Hand” Straken (a newer version, who’s been in the box for decades) and the female Catachan with grenade launcher (a newer addition to my collection, thanks again), but that will be a project for future Mørk.
As always a wonderful pleasure to participate in the challenge, and planning for the next round has obviously already begun.

This month was kind of funny, I was out of town for almost 3 weeks, got 10 days to complete everything and it never felt stressful.
Finishing all the aspects warriors and their respective Phoenix Lords was one of my personal objectives. I didn’t reach my other goal which was doing all the 2nd ed models (missing the viper and the fire prism), but I have them ready and they’ll be done somewhat soonish. The wraith units were part of the original pledge, so they needed to be done anyway!
Total, I got 80 models done in the past 6 months for a total of 5568 pts of army…

Well here we are, at the end of another’s years challenge. This month was always going to be more relaxing as I worked on most of these during the other 5 months but was just needing to get them over the line and finish the various figures. That also gave me time to work on the bingo challenge, as I was aware being so close to the full bingo, I could not come up short. This meant getting a Diorama base, using some OSL and hand sculpting some greenstuff. I was able to work on the diorama base fist with a straightforward meadow base for the army to fit on. The some Venom Sacs were sculpted onto one of the Tyranid Warrior Broods, and the others had some OSL with the green organs within their chest cavity glowing out onto the outer exoskeleton. This means that I can declare BINGO! with this last submission. Big thanks to Dr. The Viking and Wachtmeister for running another excellent challenge that has helped me get another 2nd edition army painted up, and for putting up with all the deadlines and processes keeping the wheels turning for another year. There efforts are much appreciated.

With the final month coinciding with school holidays, things were always going to get a little crazy. I had a plan to complete my bingo card that looked only barely achievable on paper. To start, I painted a bunch of Dark Angels characters, as well as another squad of Deathwing Terminators. I did get a little bogged down with the additional detail on the models, which isn’t great when you are racing against the clock. During the final stretch I dipped into my collection of vintage marine figures, most of which were kindly donated by Dave Weston, of Confessions of a 40K Addict fame. Painting something in a Rogue Trader paint scheme hits a little differently when you play Dark Angels… let’s just say that loyalties are questioned! I painted a small force in the pre-heresy Dark Angels scheme, then shifted gears once again and converted some Plain’s World scouts. For the final photo I rescued my Fortress of Redemption pieces from the garage and incorporated them into a display, along with a fresh backdrop; I tried to pay homage to John Blanche with the planet-rise to the best of my ability. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr The Viking and Wachtmeister for running the challenge again this year, it has been a blast. It has been amazing to watch everyone’s efforts over the past 6 months. I hope to see some familiar faces next year, if the fates align!
