Tally ho and welcome to the Fantasy Fall Block Brawl Army Challenge 2023! We have quite a schedule in front of us as the participants who have entered this (of their own volition) will paint their way through piles of miniatures over the next three months!
What is this? Well – the #FallBrawlAC is essentially a painting challenge. Each participant has taken it upon himself to paint a pledge selected by some criteria outlined in our “rules”. The first month of painting is September and at the beginning of October we shall release a compilation of the hard work these people have done. So it will carry on until the end of November when the challenge ends.
In total 17 mushroom crazed fantasy fanatics have joined up and listed below are the last 8 entries in the “Rear Rank” (please put no other emphasis on this than the fact that it is last half of the people to submit an entry).

I have been speed painting this army for kow for the last 3 months and it will be extra motivation through this challenge. Intending to finish it this year. It will be usable in other games (probably whfb 6th) once I have the correct sized movement trays. Will likely add extra figures and artillery.

To get this army project off to a good start. I began building the army this spring but it stalled, so this challenge seems like an opportune moment to get back up on the horse (or centaur) and pledge servitude to Slaanesh!

Since the Storm of Chaos campaign, I have amassed a rather large army of Warriors of Chaos (25k points) all following the banner of Archaon, the Everchosen. With the return of WHFB on the horizon, I figured I ought to give my collection a lick of paint and prepare to invade the soft-bellied lands to the south, in the name of the Ruinous Powers. I’m starting with Khorne, the mailed fist of the Dark Gods. Bestial and savage in nature, his portion of the followers of Archaon will bear many monstrous and bloodthirsty regiments and creatures.

I have always loved Warhammer, and even though 40K has taken over much of my gaming (and therefore hobby) time, WHFB has always been my first love, and it’s a superior game in my opinion. I never bought the 4th ed box (I started in 5th ed, the Bretonnians and Lizardmen box) but I have collected many High Elves over the years and it’s finally time to get them painted.
The old plastic monopose models, though people always hated them, were perfect for the massed ranked regiment look I thought, and they are my favourite version of the High Elves.
I will be inspired by Rick Priestley’s guide for painting a large High Elf army fast from White Dwarf 192, though it is a daunting task to paint this many models… we shall see if I make it past the first month!
I will be painting these as an army from Chrace (white and red, with dark blue as a spot/contrast colour).

Dwarfs are one of the few armies where I have whole regiments of unpainted oldschool miniatures. Got a whole army of the old Grenadier Fantasy Warriors Dwarfs (by Nick Lund?), metal and plastic, which I absolutely adore. For this challenge, I’ll do 20 spear Dwarfs with command and 20 crossbow Dwarfs (practically two units of ten). Gonna beef them up with 20 Citadel 3rd ed Prince Ulther’s Dragon Company.

The Chaos forces mass. It’s time to get some paint on my mixed Chaos force, building up to some 1st or 3rd edition gaming with the family. In true Oldhammer style there’s a nice mix of classic Citadel (preslotta is my era of choice) and various other suitable manufacturers.
I’ve got a regiment of Lesser Goblins from Satanic Panic to kick us off, led by some of their bigger cousins from Irregular Miniatures.
Then it’s over to the ragtag bunch that I’ll be running as 8pt Beastmen – a mix of Chaos Dwarves in various states of mutation, Barbarians, Chaos Knights whose humanity is more than a little questionable and a Midlam Halfling Chaos Warrior to lead them all. They’re rounded out by some actual Beastmen (a Citadel Broo and some classic Bob Olley Metal Magic, now available from Midlam), whose job will be to herd their lessers into battle.
And finally, some classic Chaos Warriors from various early 80s boxed sets to form the backbone of the force.
I can be a wee bit slow at the painting table sometimes and I have a habit of taking large breaks between sessions, so hoping the extra motivation will push me to get more over the line. Having only been back painting for a few months after many years away, I’m also keen to use this as an opportunity to push myself to try some different techniques and make some of these guys pop on the battlefield that little bit more.

For years, I have been wanting to make a Forest Goblin themed army. I have painted up quite a few pieces for it so far – all based on Red Nebular miniatures 3d prints. Now it is time for the final push. I have made a barebones minimum pledge, but am hoping to add a lot of extras to it on the side. It will be “slap-chopping” my way through this. I have also bought the things needed to fit a toy spider with a howdah and call it an Arachnorok spider. Rules wise, I am tailoring everything towards Warhammer Renaissance (if you don’t know what it is, look it up on facebook) as I think this best suits my needs.
